ENTREPRENEUR AS A CHRISTIAN
Entrepreneurship falls and rises in creativity and innovation. Entrepreneurs are problem solvers and invariably solution providers. This implies that they remain vigilant in identifying challenges within their industries, workplaces, communities, societies, environments, and the global landscape as a whole.
Top entrepreneurs such as Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, Henry Ford, Jack Ma, and Richard Branson may not be identified as Christians, similar to some prominent entrepreneurs in Nigeria. This prompts the question: why aren’t believers occupying/ leading in this domain? This is a harsh truth, I must admit. The cost of achieving greatness, wielding influence, and attaining success in entrepreneurship is undoubtedly substantial. These costs differ based on the individual and the industry they’re in. However, among
the most prevalent expenses are risk, failure, loneliness, misconceptions, disregard, and much more.
Christian entrepreneurs bear a unique calling, tasked not only with offering solutions but also with executing them in an upright manner. This obligation adds an extra layer of complexity to navigating the intricate realm of innovation. Making it more difficult to navigate through the murky waters of innovation. God’s summons to every believer extends beyond the sanctuary as we are admonished to showcase this life in every context, location and situation we find ourselves in.
Proverbs 20:23 Diverse weights are an abomination unto the LORD, and a false balance is not good.
Ecclesiastes 9:10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor
wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.
Jeremiah 22:13 Woe unto him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong; that useth his neighbor’s service without wages, and giveth him not for his work;
1 Timothy 5:18: “For the Scripture says, ‘You shall not muzzle an ox when it treads out the grain,” and, “The laborer deserves his wages.’”
Proverbs 13:11: “Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it.”
Various scriptures provide guidance for Christian entrepreneurs as they establish their businesses centered on solutions.
Beyond pursuing profit, a Christian entrepreneur seeks to carry the message of Jesus to others through their business influence. This leads people to eagerly engage in business with them due to their identity as Christians, embodying virtues
inherently instilled by the Spirit, such as love, kindness, gentleness, long-suffering, integrity, trustworthiness, and reliability.
The Christian entrepreneur is summoned to a life of serving humanity while simultaneously devoutly serving the Lord through creative and innovative endeavors within the marketplace.
